Thomas County is the heart of cattle country. In a place where you'll find more chaps than business suits and more horses than SUVs, Thomas County is a place where you, regardless of where you're from or how long you're staying , are always welcome.
Summer Greetings
Summer in the Sandhills of Thomas County finds a kaleidoscope of colors. The spring showers bring forth the pinks, yellows, blues, reds and whites of a myriad of wildflowers, as well as the lush green of the grasses that stabilize the sand underneath. This vast ocean of grass along with the cool, clear water beneath it in the Ogallala Aquifer is the basis for the ranching operations that reside here. We raise some of the best beef in the world right here in Thomas County-not boasting just stating a fact. One may sample some of our beef at the Double T in Halsey, Stub's in Thedford or the Cattleman's in Seneca.
Outdoor enthusiasts can relish in the varied assortment of entertainment found here. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, as well as bird watching, star gazing, wildflower walks, golfing, fishing, tanking, tubing- you name it, it can be done for a day, a weekend or even longer. Rodeos can be enjoyed every weekend of the summer if not here, close by. The Nebraska National Forest near Halsey has one of the few public places for ATV riding in Nebraska. The Halsey Frontier Inn in Halsey, The Roadside Inn, The Middle Loup River Ranch GUest House or the Arrowhead Motel in Thedford can be your base for enjoying our part of what many locals refer to as "God's Country".
Come, enjoy our part of the Nebraska Good Life. Rest, refresh, rejuvenate right here in Thomas County.
You may empty the Sand from your shoes,
as from this place you depart,
but memories of the HILLS, the CATTLE, the PEOPLE
will be etched forever in your heart!
